Forever is a Long Time to Dance (Devon C. Johnson’s Space Disco remix)
Charlene Kaye
OH MY GOD OK SO
i think we all know that my expectations for this were THROUGH THE FUCKING ROOF and there should have been no way that they could have ever met them
and they exceeded them
like, originally the song is about bucking yourself up after a terrible romantic experience, specifically by drawing from female power and the re-appropriation of misogynist “man up” language
and they kept all that and then turned it into a song about FEMALE POWER AND LIBERATION AND MISANDRY!!!!!!!!!!!! kalae’s lyrics are quite literally by and for ‘women in the struggle’ to encourage them become queens who see men as their ‘servers’ to ‘put in submission’
while simultaneously recognizing the importance of typically denigrated ~female attributes~ like emotionality and intuition and kinetics (‘she wants love/she wants kisses/she wants touch’)
i mean?????!!!!!!!!!
these are two woc singing and rapping about how they should be held as society’s dominants, with primarily (w)o(c) behind the camera, and with purposeful intention of dismantling the societal oppression that manifests itself in all those girls going ‘hungry and blind’. this is every republican nightmare turned into a couple of giant loveable perfect goofs rocking out on youtube.
and, like, even putting all that aside? WHAT A FREAKING CATCHY BEAT, WHAT GOOD RHYTHM, WHAT RIDICULOUSLY ENDEARING DANCING CHARLENE HAS, WHAT GREAT STYLING, WHAT GREAT FACES?????????
basically i am never ever ever ever getting over this.
From the upcoming remixes album due out Feb 26!
Happy Wednesday! xxx Charlene
